UNDERWAY REPLENISHMENT

It's February, 1991. Horne is on station in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm. Supplies are getting low and Horne's fuel tanks are running dry. Watch as the USS San Diego (AFS 6) and the USS Missouri (BB-63) come along side Horne for Underway Replenishment.

MINE GAMES

 It's April, 1991. Horne is on station in the Northern Persian Gulf along with USS Tripoli (LPH-10) and USS Princeton (CG-59). Both Tripoli and Princeton have just struck mines. Despite the demonstrated danger, Horne is ordered to stay put and provide air-cover for the striken ships. Horne remains on station for 12 days in what is later identified as Iraqi Minefield 5 infested with deadly mines. This video documents the destruction of one of those mines discovered by Horne.

TURNER/LUPIA CHANGE OF COMMAND (12min 40sec)

On July 26, 1968, while on station in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War, Captain Stansfield Turner (Horne's 1st CO) was Relieved by Captain Archy Lupia (Horne's 2nd CO). See also Captain Turner's Change of Command Letter. This is the audio recording of Horne's first change of command.

USS HORNE ASSISTS IN FIRST MIG KILL (12min 12sec)

In the summer of 1968, USS Horne directed two US F-8H fighters to intercept and destroy an enemy Mig-21 that had just taken off from it's base in North Vietnam. Horne's CIC officer is call sign Raider/Red Crown. Rootbeer 1 & 2 are the US F-8s. Fox 1 & 2 are the codenames for the Sidewinder missiles.1010-011 is a US tanker.   After the kill, Horne assists in directing the refueling operation of the two US fighters which are extremely low on fuel.
